Quote that I love from the PaleoChix.com blog!

"Remember, emotional nourishment comes from things like listening to your favorite music, enjoying a hobby, wearing pretty clothes and your good jewelry, going out with the girls, getting hair and nails done, you what I mean. Hugs, kisses, hands being held… that is what feeds you soul. Nothing you bite into will give you that satisfaction. Food nourishes your body. YOU nourish your soul. Remember this."

Good Days and Bad Days

9 days since my last post!  I need to get better at remembering to do this.  In short, I've had good days and bad days.  Social events are hard for me.  I do the best when I'm at home, but we all know it's impossible to lock ourselves away in our houses!

Tip of the day:  Make sure you have Paleo friendly snacks ready and available.  If you are starving and there is nothing easy to grab, it is so tempting to go off the wagon!

I forgot to mention....

By the way, I'm participating in a Paleo "class" for 4 weeks with trainer Rebecca.  The first one was Sunday, 1/3, and I'll go for the next 3 Sundays.  She is so helpful with food ideas, instruction, and provides us with great marinades and seasonings.  I'm hopeful that this will be a huge help in kickstarting my journey!

Also, Rebecca took my measurements on Sunday including weight, waist, BMI, and body fat. I'm frankly too embarrassed to list them here right now, but maybe I will after I see some results!

Transition Week

It's the start of a new year and the start of a new decade.  Can anybody believe it's really 2010?  Where does the time go?

I have decided that this year and this decade should be devoted to my health and fitness, as well as the health and fitness of my family.  To be accountable, I've decided to blog about my journey. I hope this will keep me inspired and maybe one day it will inspire someone else.

I was introduced to the "Paleo" diet concept by my trainer Rebecca in November.  I "dabbled" in the concept and felt immediately healthier (but fell off the wagon over the holidays).  Google "Paleo Diet" to learn more...but in a nutshell this is a dietary lifestyle in which you eat like a caveman - consuming only foods that were available 10,000+ years ago.  Basically, your daily diet consists of Meat/Fish, Vegetables, Protein, and Nuts.  Maybe I'll post more details later, but in the meantime just search the web.  There are a ton of great resources out there including Rebecca's blog:  http://www.paleochix.com/ .

Although my intention was originally to do a strict 30 days of Paleo beginning January 3, 2010, life is working against me a little bit this week.  We returned home on January 2 from a 11 day vacation to Texas to find a dead refrigerator and rotting food.  Between being fridge-less for a couple of days as well as getting a post vacation cold/virus, I've decided that this week I will "do my best" and go for my 30 days strict Paleo beginning Sunday, January 10.

Along with my personal journey, I hope to inspire healthy eating within my family including my semi-picky husband and two very picky children.  I'll keep you posted on how this goes as well!

Exercise will need to be a big part of this journey as well....although I haven't quite figured that out yet.  Hopefully it will come to me in a day or two when I start to feel better!!

Watch out decade, here I come!!
